10:31am | Members of the state Citizens Redistricting Commission met Thursday and approved a new map of proposed U.S. Congressional district boundaries that keeps Long Beach in a single district.
The map is similar to the initial map released by the commission, but includes Hawaiian Gardens to the exclusion of south Lakewood.
A third proposed map that would have split Long Beach into two Congressional districts was rejected.
The commission is charged with redrawing the boundary lines of the state’s 53 congressional, 80 state Assembly, 40 state Senate and four state Board of Equalization districts.
A final set of district maps is set to be released July 28, with the commission slated to adopt them in an Aug. 15 vote.
