One blue heron was rescued and another was found dead after the birds were found entangled in fishing line in a tree near the entrance to Belmont Pier, animal care officials said.

The surviving heron appeared to have no serious injuries, but was nevertheless taken to International Bird Rescue in San Pedro, according to Ted Stevens, manager of Animal Care Services.

The discovery was made Friday morning. It wasn’t clear how the fishing line got into the tree.
