A 21-year-old Ontario man died in a car crash in downtown Long Beach early this morning.

The incident happened about 2:35AM near westbound Shoreline Drive, east of the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway.

Authorities discovered a 2016 Hyundai Veloster at the bottom of the embankment below Shoreline Drive with the victim still inside, according to a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Long Beach firefighters attempted lifesaving measures but the driver died from his injuries at the scene.

“The preliminary investigation determined the Hyundai, driven by a 21-year old male from Ontario, was traveling west on Shoreline Drive,” officials stated. “The driver lost control of the vehicle hitting the guard rail on the north side of the roadway. The vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in a vacant dirt lot below Shoreline Drive.”

Alcohol or drug intoxication are not believed to be involved.

The victim will be identified pending notification of kin.
