Officers who patrol Long Beach Police Department’s South Division will temporarily deploy from the West Division’s substation while a five-level parking garage is constructed at the Downtown police headquarters, officials announced today.

The move will be effective Saturday and will likely last 18 to 24 months while the garage is built at the Public Safety Building in the 400 block of West Broadway, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The South Division, which covers Downtown and some of the surrounding area, normally deploys out of the Public Safety Building. A map of divisions is available here.

“The South and West Patrol divisions will continue to operate independently from one another, staffing and service in both divisions will not be affected,” the police department reported.

“South Patrol Division officers will deploy from the West Patrol Division substation at the beginning of each shift and will continue to patrol their assigned beats in the Downtown area as normal.”

The West Division substation is at 1835 Santa Fe Avenue.

The parking garage that will be built at the Public Safety Building was approved by the Long Beach City Council in early 2019, according to police.
