Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine and the Long Beach Convention and Visitor’s Bureau announced the beginning of its “100 Days of Summer” recreation and cultural program today, beginning with a free Pop Vinyl concert to take place this Friday.

The 100 Days of Summer program promotes opportunities to “stay and play” in Long Beach from Memorial Day through Labor Day with free or low-cost cultural programs, sports activities and special events throughout the city, according to a release issued today.

“100 Days of Summer is full of fun and exciting events right here in Long Beach,” Mayor Robert Garcia said. “You and your family can enjoy hundreds of wonderful activities, including movies, concerts, sports, camps and classes all summer long.”

The concert runs from 6PM to 8PM Friday at Marine Stadium, featuring a “playlist spanning five decades of ‘up-beat, rug-cutting’ hits” by Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, RUN-DMC, Timbaland, The Bee Gees, Bell Biv Devoe, Donna Summer, Madonna and more.

Food trucks and a 5PM Kids Zone will be on hand for the concert. Spectators are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnic dinners for a night of fun.

Other program events will include more free concerts and movies, Long Beach Sea Festival events, gatherings at the El Dorado Nature Center, Rancho Los Cerritos and Rancho Los Alamitos historic sites, and ideas for fun that include golf, biking, swimming and kayaking.
