Long Beach police and fire officials located a partially decomposing body inside a storage container near the Los Angeles River Monday night.

Officers were sent near the 3700 block of E 208th Street at about 7 p.m.to assist fire personnel with a call about a deceased person, police said.

The decomposing body was partially enclosed within a large storage container and was found resting in a shallow portion of the river, police said.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene based on the unusual circumstances regarding the storage container, according to police.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office took possession of the body and will assist in identifying the body and working to determine the cause and manner of death, police said.
