Pushed back again because of rain forcast, the full weekend closure of Ocean Boulevard between Downtown and the Gerald Desmond Bridge for a repaving project has been rescheduled to begin January 11. It will require the area to be closed for three full days for three separate weekends.

Originally scheduled to begin tonight at 10PM, the first phase of the project has been delayed until next weekend when the closure will begin at 10PM Friday night and run through 5AM on Monday, January 14. The closures on January 11-14 will be the first of three weekend closures that are scheduled to continue January 18-21 and January 25-28, weather pending.

Eastbound Ocean Boulevard between the Gerald Desmond Bridge and downtown Long Beach will be closed for repaving from 10PM Friday until 5AM Monday on each of those three weekends. The I-710 Freeway northbound from Ocean Boulevard will remain open during construction.

In addition, the on-ramp from Pico Avenue to the westbound Gerald Desmond Bridge will also be closed during the same time for repaving.

For commuters going eastbound on the Gerald Desmond Bridge to Pico Avenue or downtown Long Beach this weekend, you are to be directed to go north on the I-710 Freeway, then exit at Anaheim Street. Traffic on Pico Avenue seeking to cross to Terminal Island will be redirected north to West Anaheim Street in order to bypass the bridge.
