The East Village Art District will welcome a new member Saturday night, when Pates Fraiches Restaurant opens its doors for the first time with a Grand Opening celebration. The new eatery promises a trendy atmosphere, with affordable fresh artisan pastas.
The Grand Opening event is on Saturday, February 9th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and is open to the public. The restaurant will be taking reservations for dinner following the event. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant directly at (562) 437-2222.
Co-owners Richard Lewis and Allard Kuijken designed Pates Fraiches themselves, aiming for a local, one-of-a-kind restaurant.
“We were inspired by a textile from the Southwest of France,” Lewis says. “It had these colors that seemed traditional and fresh at the same time and we wanted to capture that feeling. We think the wall sets the tone of the restaurant.”
The restaurant will be open everyday for lunch and dinner except Mondays. Lunch hours will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Dinner hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Pates Fraiches (pronounced “pat fresh,” meaning “fresh pasta” in French) specializes in pastas made of organic wheat, rye, barley, buckwheat, rice and chestnut flours. These fresh pastas are used to create unique dishes such as rice spaghetti with a tofu stir fry, rye fettuccini with Virginia ham, zucchini and comté cheese and a chestnut pappardelle with duck breast and crimini mushrooms in a crème-fresh sauce.
“We also want to be part of the neighborhood,” added Kuijken.
“We are looking forward to partnering with other businesses in the area and participating in the monthly East Village art-walk by showcasing local artists.”
