A pedestrian died Saturday evening after being struck by multiple vehicles in the area of Pacific Avenue and 27th Street, police said.

At approximately 6:44 p.m., Long Beach Police Department officers responded to a hit-and-run traffic collision. According to the LBPD, the preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was struck by three vehicles before authorities arrived at the scene.

First, police said an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on Pacific Avenue when it struck the pedestrian who was crossing Pacific Avenue in the north crosswalk. The collision caused the pedestrian to fall into the No. 2 lane of northbound Pacific Avenue, north of 27th Street. That vehicle then fled the scene, police said.

The pedestrian was then struck again by a Hyundai Elantra while lying in the road, officers said. The driver, a 27-year-old man who lives in Long Beach, pulled over after driving over the pedestrian, contacted police and cooperated with the investigation.

The pedestrian was struck once more by a Honda Odyssey and dragged to the area of Spring Street and Pacific Avenue, authorities said. The driver, a 78-year-old man who lives in Long Beach, was unaware of the collision and was stopped by a witness. The driver cooperated with the investigation.

In addition to the LBPD, the Long Beach Fire Department also responded to the scene of the Honda Odyssey collision, lifted and stabilized the vehicle, and determined the pedestrian trapped underneath the vehicle was deceased, according to authorities.

The pedestrian’s identity is unknown, and the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office will conduct its own investigation and identify the pedestrian, the LBPD said.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Det. S. Loughlin of the Long Beach Police Department Investigation Detail at (562) 570-7355.
