Police are investigating the stabbing death of a man whose body was found near a homeless encampment along the the Los Angeles River Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and the Los Angeles River at around 6:03 a.m. to assist Long Beach Fire Department personnel with the stabbing, police said. When officers arrived, they saw the man was unresponsive and had been stabbed multiple times in the upper torso area, authorities said. He was declared dead at the scene by LBFD personnel, authorities said.

Authorities have not yet identified the man, although police say he resided at the nearby homeless encampment.

Homicide detectives also responded to investigate. At this time, no suspect information is available, police said.
