planecrash2015A single-engine plane crashed into a Long Beach Airport perimeter fence Thursday night, with the pilot suffering minor injuries, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) officials said.

The incident happened shortly after 9:00PM, on southbound Lakewood Boulevard, about 300 yards south of Conant Street.

Arriving firefighters found the Beechcraft aircraft resting on the fence and discovered a small aviation fuel leak that has since been controlled and no longer poses a hazard, authorities said.

The pilot was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Fire officials said a second person driving a vehicle struck by debris from the accident was examined by paramedics but did not seek further medical treatment.

Parts of Lakewood Boulevard were closed overnight for crews to clear debris. The road opened up at about 6:00AM Friday, officials announced.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
