DinoRack

A rack similar to one of many removed from the Willow median that runs through El Dorado Park.

The dinosaur bike racks on Willow are going extinct—or, in the words of 5th District Councilmember Gerrie Schipske, “Say [goodbye to] the dinosaurs going away forever, just like the creatures they represent.”

The placement of the racks—which looked like the one pictured above—were truly odd: they sat in the middle of the street, on the Willow median as it passes through El Dorado Park. Obviously useless to bicyclists, they instead acted as ersatz traffic calming elements to lower speeds along the road.

According to Schipske’s office, the City Traffic Engineering Office has been attempting to slow down traffic in that area since the State might propose raising the speed limit to 55MPH should traffic not calm down. Schipske ultimately feels this would be a detriment to the neighborhood.

The dinos and alligators will now, however, be replaced by natural elements such as trees and greenery.
