Bixby Knolls and California Heights residents should plan their commutes along Atlantic Ave. with care since the major artery will undergo a repaving project that begins Wednesday, October 8 at 7AM and is expected to last 60 days.
The project’s scope is vast, as it includes tree trimming and the removal of most of the existing curbs and sidewalks between Bixby Road and 33rd St. Additionally, the street will be repaved with rubberized asphalt. Each working day will be active between 7AM and 4PM, Monday through Friday, however, City officials warn that night and weekend work will occur at unspecific times to expedite the project’s completion.
In order to deal with the massive loss of parking spaces, street sweeping prohibitions on either side of Atlantic Ave. on 33rd St., Wardlow Rd., 35th St., 36th St., 37th St., and Bixby Road will be lifted to provide additional spaces.
Trash pickup times will remain regular.
Further questions can be addressed to All American Asphalt, the contractor hired by the City to head the project, at 951-757-8056 or the City of Long Beach Department of Public Works at 562-570-5716.
