Police have arrested a Long Beach man who they believe supplied drugs to five people who overdosed at a Recreation Park home last month, police said.
Daniel Giannattasio, 32, was arrested last week on suspicion of possession for sale of psilocybin mushrooms while officers served a search warrant at an Alamitos Beach home, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police say Giannattasio is believed to be responsible for supplying the drugs that led to the overdoses of five people who were found by authorities at a home in the 800 block of Grand Avenue just before 3 a.m. on Sept. 24. It wasn’t clear what drugs were involved in the overdoses.
Four of the five people were hospitalized in stable condition while the fifth was treated at the scene, authorities said.
An investigation into the overdoses eventually led authorities to identify Giannattasio as a suspect and detectives secured a search warrant for a residence believed to be connected to the crime, police said.
On Oct. 6, officers conducted a search warrant in the 400 block of Walnut Street and found drugs, an AR-15, a pistol and firearm magazines, police said. Giannattasio, meanwhile, was located nearby.
Giannattasio’s bail was set at zero dollars and he was subsequently released on his own recognizance, police said.
Detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration, the LBPD said.
