Officers fired less-lethal rounds and eventually arrested a woman who was blocking traffic on the 710 Freeway late Wednesday night, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police said the woman was walking on the freeway while holding a metal pipe near Pacific Coast Highway around 11:45 p.m.

Police tried to de-escalate the situation but were unsuccessful, LBPD spokeswoman Allison Gallagher said. Officers fired less-lethal rounds to incapacitate the woman, and she was immediately treated at the scene before being taken to a local hospital, Gallagher said.

Police determined the woman was trying to commit suicide, and she was held for mental evaluation, according to the LBPD.
