Long Beach emergency workers helped pull a dead body out of the water near Rainbow Harbor Saturday morning, and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office is now helping investigate the cause of death, police said.

Brian Fisk, a spokesperson for the Long Beach Fire Department, said an area business reported the body just after 10 a.m. Saturday and a Long Beach Lifeguard boat helped locate and transport the body to the docks just south of Parker’s Lighthouse.

The identity of the deceased was not yet known, but officials said the body was that of an adult male.

Long Beach Police officers worked to tape off the scene and set up tents in the area as the rain came down and a few people looked on. Richard Mejia, a spokesperson for the LBPD, said in an email that no information was available about the deceased person or how he ended up in the water.

The department said the investigation is ongoing.
