A man was shot Wednesday night in North Long Beach, and police are still looking for the gunman, authorities said.

The shooting happened at around 10:57 p.m. in the 200 block of 68th Way, an area just north of 91 Freeway and Long Beach’s Coolidge Triangle neighborhood.

Police say the victim, identified only as a man, was shot in the lower body by another man who was standing outside of his residence. It is not clear what prompted the gunman to shoot.

“There is no indication the suspect and victim knew each other,” said Paige White, an officer with the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers arrived shortly after, but the gunman had fled the scene. Long Beach Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital to be treated for his wounds, police said. He is in stable condition, according to the LBPD.

At the scene, officers recovered evidence that a shooting occurred, according to the LPBD. The investigation into the shooting, including a motive, is ongoing.
