Long Beach police on Monday sought public help to find the hit-and-run driver who fatally injured a pedestrian.

The woman was struck around 6:10 p.m. Friday as she crossed Pacific Coast Highway near the 710 Freeway, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Melinda Wilson, a 58-year-old Carson woman, died at a hospital on Saturday, authorities said.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle struck the victim while she was crossing Pacific Coast Highway near the 710 Freeway off-ramps,” according to police. “The victim was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision. After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene.”

The vehicle was described as a blue, 2001-2003 Honda Civic. No description was available of the motorist. Anyone with information was urged to call police at 562-570-7110, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
