The 2022 election will result in Long Beach getting a new mayor, a new city attorney, and at least three new council members. These are the people charged with spending our money, safeguarding the public during the pandemic, ensuring government services are equitable and representing our city to the rest of the world.
More than 40 candidates for local offices will be on the June 7 primary election ballot. To give readers a better idea of what the candidates would do if elected, the Post is again publishing a tool called Compare Your Candidates that allows readers to view and compare responses to questions from each candidate.
Compare Your Candidates allows readers to see how each candidate in all local races answer the same four to six questions on pertinent issues in their respective races. Each candidate’s answers are presented on the same page, allowing readers to easily compare their responses.
The questions were the result of both editorial input from our staff and the results of a January reader survey.
Though candidates were not given a word-limit on their answers, they were encouraged to keep their responses as brief as possible.
Because the 2022 election will bring so much change to Long Beach’s city leadership, we’ve decided to extend the deadline for candidates to complete their questionnaires to Friday, April 8. We are expecting to launch the tool in late April or early May.
Candidates with any concerns or questions are urged to contact Long Beach Post reporter Anthony Pignataro at [email protected].
