8:00PM | The polls have officially closed. Over the next several hours, we will be updating you with live preliminary results as they are released for both the election in Long Beach and the primary election across the state until the final results are tallied.

The primary election last April saw three definitive winners elected to the Long Beach City Council: Suzie Price for the 3rd, Roberto Uranga for the 7th, and Rex Richardson for the 9th.

That left two other council seats—the 1st and the 5th—along with City Attorney up for grabs in today’s election.

Vying for the 1st is current 1st District Deputy Lena Gonzalez and pastor and teacher Misi Tagaloa. In the 5th, budget director Stacy Mungo will face off with small business owner Carl Kemp. Meanwhile, the City Attorney seat will have seasoned veteran Charles Parkin face outgoing 7th District Councilmember James Johnson.

The statewide primary election has two assembly seats which represent parts of Long Beach, the 70th and 64th. Facing off for the former is current 2nd District Councilmember Suja Lowenthal, current 4th District Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell, and Republican John C. Goya.

For the 64th, which includes Compton, Carson, Lynwood, North Long Beach, and surrounding cities, 9th District Councilmember Steve Neal will face three other competitors: Micah Ali, president of the Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees, Carson Councilmember Mike Gipson and youth advocate Prophet Walker.
