Long Beach Councilman Dee Andrews has secured an endorsement from Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) Board President Felton Williams for his write-in campaign, campaign officials announced Monday.
Williams, who is running for a fourth term in the upcoming April 12 election himself, called Andrews a man who has dedicated his life to keeping kids safe and helping them succeed.
“On the Council, he has helped build a stronger relationship between city government and the Long Beach Unified School District, which has allowed us to maximize the resources available to our neighborhood schools,” said Williams in a statement. “I hope you will join me in supporting Dee’s write-in campaign for City Council so we can continue working together for our kids.”
Andrews was elected to the Long Beach City Council in 2007 special election. He was re-elected in 2008 and was unopposed in his re-election in 2012, according to a release. Andrews is running as a write-in candidate in the primary election as part of the city charter, which allows council members to run for a third term only as write-in candidates. Once advancing to the general election, candidates will appear on the ballot.
“I have worked closely with Felton Williams and the Long Beach Unified School District for many years and I am incredibly grateful to have his endorsement,” said Dee Andrews in a statement. “Felton Williams and I are both lifelong educators and we will continue working together to eliminate the challenges facing our neighborhoods and children.”
The councilman has also been endorsed by the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, campaign officials announced Tuesday.
“Dee Andrews has earned the endorsement from the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO because he supports and will fight for issues that matter to Los Angeles County today, such as affordable housing, good jobs, access to reliable transportation, and a fair wage,” stated Rusty Hicks, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the L.A. County Federation of Labor.
Andrews was recently endorsed by the Long Beach Firefighters Association.
