ELECTION-BUTTON-2014

On Tuesday, April 8, approximately 245,000 of Long Beach’s registered voters will take to the polls in 295 precincts for what is being called the most important city election of the last 20 years.

Fourteen major city and educational posts are up for grabs, including mayor, city attorney, city prosecutor, city auditor, odd council districts, and the odd-numbered areas for the boards of the Long Beach Unified School District and Long Beach City College.

Many of the races are hotly contested with four, five and even ten candidates vying for a single seat. For those that have more than two candidates running, if one does not receive more than 50.1% of the vote, the top two candidates with the most votes will go into a runoff in the general election June 3.

Also on the ballot is a measure that would impose a tax on medical marijuana sold at dispensaries, though the measure would only become effective if the City recinds the current ban on sales and adopts a regulatory ordinance.

The City Clerk’s office has already received 12,000 vote by mail ballots, which will be tabulated and included in Tuesday’s election results.

The following candidates are qualified and will be listed on the ballots for tomorrow’s election. If you are unsure which district you are in for any of the council or board elections, visit the L.A. County’s district search page.
