This year’s wet winter isn’t over yet: The National Weather Service says two separate storm systems are likely to shower the area this week.

The first, expected to touch the Long Beach area on Wednesday, is a small taste of the atmospheric river Northern California has been experiencing, according to Lisa Phillips, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

“The main part of that storm is going to be further north,” Phillips said.

The NWS predicts a 30 percent chance of rain in the area on Wednesday and a 40 percent chance in the evening, but forecasters expect less than a quarter of an inch of rain to fall in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

On Friday night and through the weekend, however, a separate system will hit the area. The NWS doesn’t yet know how much rain will fall, but it expects the storm to have more moisture with atmospheric river-like conditions, Phillips said.
