One of Long Beach’s most famous landmarks is adding a new 1930s-style cottage for security and offices, opening up more of the historic adobe building to the public, thanks to a grant from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment (CCHE).
The Rancho announced the new grant earlier this week, with plans for groundbreaking in early 2017 and a scheduled completion date of February 2018.
“I am very pleased to announce that we have received official word from CCHE that we received the grant to build the new cottage,” said Rancho Los Cerritos Executive Director Alison Bruesehoff in a statement.
The funding for the grant came from the first cycle of “Snoopy” license plates, in which a special California license plate featuring Snoopy was offered to residents, with proceeds from the plates benefiting California museums.
According to officials at the Rancho, the plan for the new building was presented to the Long Beach Cultural Heritage Commission December 12.
