11:13am | This Sunday, residents all over Long Beach will be commemorating the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Some of the many events that are taking place on Sunday in Long Beach are listed below:
- City of Long Beach Annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony: The annual ceremony will take place at the Police and Fire Memorial next to City Hall at the Civic Center Plaza at 9:30 a.m. Bells and sirens will ring at 10 a.m. for one minute as part of the National Moment of Remembrance.
- 2011 Belmont Shore Car Show: This year’s annual car show will pay tribute to the police and firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11. Long Beach Fire Department and Long Beach Police Department vehicles will participate in a ceremony at 9:11 a.m. for a moment of silence. For more information visit www.belmontshore.org.
- Kelly’s of Naples 9/11 Memorial BBQ: The fundraiser will benefit the Long Beach Fire Orphans and Widows Memorial Fund. The Memorial BBQ will take place from 12 p.m. -6 p.m. and features live entertainment. Call (562) 433-4983 for more information or visit www.kellysrestaurantinc.com.
- Remember 9/11: This event will begin with a motorcycle ride in Orange County at 2:15 p.m. and will end at McKenna’s on the Bay at Alamitos Bay with a memorial ceremony, tribute concert and firework show. For more information visit www.remember911ride.com.
- Healing with Hope: 9/11 Interfaith Remembrance: The South Coast Interfaith Council will hold an interfaith gathering at First Congregational Church at 4 p.m. For more information call (562) 983-1665 or email [email protected].
- 9/11 Candlelight Vigil, Walk & Remembrance Ceremony: Organized by Long Beach community member Justin Rudd, the candlelight walk will begin at Bixby Park at 7 p.m. and will end in front of the World Trade Center in downtown Long Beach.
