9:35 am | The Committee of 300 of Long Beach, Inc (C-300) will be hosting a Prospective Member Happy Hour Mixer Friday, September 23 at The Beach Club, for prospective junior volunteers with an interest in the City of Long Beach and the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Junior membership in the C-300 offers community service orientated individuals from 21-25 the opportunity to develop their leadership and organizational skills and network. Junior members will also be behind the scenes during the Toyota Grand Prix weekend and are an important component of the success of the race. Some schools provide educational credits for community service, and the C-300 says that membership is an asset on any resume.
Junior Member, Ryan Castro, says he joined the Committee to give back to the community and thought that the C-300 provided that opportunity. He is was looking forward to working the race.
C-300 president, Dian Morris, states that current members of the C-300 are eager and committed to turning the committee over to a younger group of individuals who are willing to donate their time to work within the community for the betterment of Long Beach.
The Committee of 300 of Long Beach, Inc. is a year round, all volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the City of Long Beach and the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach
Formed in 1975 with the inaugural Grand Prix, the committee has developed into one of the most well-known community service organizations in Long Beach. Members seek, and are sought out, to assist in a wide variety of Community Outreach activities. Last year the Committee members worked two water stations at the Long Beach Marathon, adopted a park and provided clean-up for same, worked the phones for the, K-Jazz fundraiser, and assisted the Long Beach Historical Society with their Halloween tour. Each year, the Committee adopts a local charity to support with fundraising activities. During the Holiday Season, the Redcoats, as Committee Members are commonly called because of their distinctive red jackets, are seen marching in the local holiday parades and decorating the City of Long Beach Rose Parade float.
The Committee members continue their involvement with the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach. During Race Weekend, C-300 members act as grandstand ambassadors, assist in the Press Compound and produce the Paddock Club, a VIP venue consisting of closed circuit TV areas, a dance floor and band, breakfast and lunch buffets, a full service cash bar, and autograph sessions with the drivers. Open during race weekend, this venue provides reserved grandstand seating and is the lowest priced three day ticket for the race. A one day, Sunday Only, ticket is also available with the same amenities. Throughout the year, the Redcoats also promote the race at various car shows and other race venues.
While participating in the above, the members still have time for socializing. Monthly meetings and activities offer networking and fellowship opportunities.
