Long Beach Police Department SWAT officers were dispatched to the area of Paramount Boulevard and 57th Street Friday night where they searched for a man who reportedly entered a vacant home with a gun near Davenport Park, but after an hours-long operation, they could not find him.

Police say someone reported seeing a man going into the residence with a gun sometime around 6:10 p.m. Officers arrived at the scene and attempted to make contact with the suspect, but he refused to the home, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

After the suspect refused to come out and talk with officers, LBPD activated its SWAT team and evacuated nearby homes while some residents remained sheltered in place, authorities said. Although negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation, the suspect refused to surrender, the LBPD said.

At around 7:25 p.m., officers served a search warrant at the home, but were unable to locate the man, the LBPD said.

No injuries were reported, according to police, who are still investigating.
