12:45pm | The public is invited to attend the first “Moving Long Beach” meeting Thursday night (tonight) to discuss ways in which residents can become involved in making Long Beach a more healthy, livable and active community.

The free meeting is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Cal State Long Beach Pyramid Annex Conference Room.

Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal, CSULB Sustainable Transportation Program Coordinator Elissa Briggs Thomas and city of Long Beach Mobility Coordinator Charles Gandy will lead a discussion titled “Moving Long Beach: Bikes are Just the Beginning — A Conversation on Livable Communities in Long Beach.”

The dialogue will be moderated by Allan Crawford of Bikeable Communities.

The “Moving Long Beach” community meetings are the next phase of planned discussions about the city’s transportation infrastructure following the recent series of meetings about the Bicycle Master Plan.

Forthcoming meetings will focus on discussions of new policies, programs and initiatives that would promote an overall agenda of active living where bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure can support redevelopment and revitalization of neighborhoods.

Space at the April 7 event is limited. Those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP by sending an e-mail to Courtney Aguirre at [email protected] or by calling 562-570-6667.

Parking will be available for $5 on campus. Enter the campus from Merriam Way and park in Lot 13 or Parking Structure 1. Parking permits can be purchased from any yellow permit dispenser.
