1:35pm | Thanks to the helping hands of students, parents, parishioners and community volunteers, Our Lady of Refuge School in East Long Beach is set to receive a makeover this weekend.
“Homes aren’t the only structures in need of extreme makeovers — sometimes schools need a face-lift, too,” said Nancy Limon in a news release.
The K-8 private Catholic school located in the 5200 block of Los Coyotes Diagonal is hosting a Beautification Day this Saturday, April 9, as part of its plans for renewal, according to information provided by Limon.
The school is set to be cleaned and receive a fresh coat of paint, and new flowers and other greenery will be planted. Additionally, new furniture is set to be delivered, and installed will be both a new mural in the hall and a new stature outside the school’s office.
The event is open to the community, and anyone who would like to pitch in and volunteer is encouraged to do so. Music and lunch will be provided to all volunteers.
Following the school’s makeover, an open house will be held in May to show off the school’s fresh, new look.
Saturday’s effort will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. at the school, 5210 E. Los Coyotes Diagonal.
Founded in 1953, the school has served the East Long Beach community for more than 50 years. According to information provided by the school, the administration and faculty strive to create an atmosphere that is conducive to the maximum development of students’ spiritual, intellectual, moral, aesthetic and physical potential.
