Police say they’re investigating a road rage incident that occurred at a parking lot along Seventh Street on Thursday night, which escalated into a shooting.

Officers responded around 11:03 p.m. to the 5200 block of East Second Street in Belmont Shore after receiving a call about an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

There, a man told police that he was parking his vehicle around 10 p.m. at a lot in the 5600 block of East Seventh Street when he collided with another driver who was also trying to park.

“It was a small crash,” according to LBPD spokesperson Richard Mejia, who said no injuries were reported in the collision. “They were both parking and slowly backing into their spots and happened to collide.”

The other driver then got out of his vehicle and tried to argue with the man, who stayed inside his car, according to the LBPD.

That’s when the driver outside of the vehicle pulled out a gun and fired one round into the man’s car, police said.

The gunfire didn’t strike anyone, according to police, and both the victim and the suspect fled the scene.
