Trying to make room in your cabinets, and you’ve got some non-perishables worth giving away? Welp, the Rotary Club of Long Beach is taking food donations this Saturday in a drive-thru that the philanthropical organization hopes will help college students in need. (And, please, people: Nothing that’s expired.)

On Oct. 24 between 9 a.m. and noon, Rotary will accept drop-off food at Long Beach City College (Lot G on Clark Avenue north of Carson Street) and Cal State Long Beach (Lot E-11 by Seventh Street and West Campus Drive). Food drive workers will collect the items from the trunks of the vehicles of donors.

The organizers say high-need food includes canned meats and vegetables, protein and granola bars, beans, rice, pasta and sauce, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, oatmeal and snacks such as nuts, cookies and crackers.

Other needed items include shampoo, hand sanitizer, toothbrushes and toothpaste.

The items collected will be given to food-insecure students from Long Beach City College and Cal State Long Beach, according to the club.
