Seal Beach lifeguards rescued an elderly man who jumped off the Seal Beach Pier Saturday morning, officials said.

At about 9 a.m., police got a call from a witness reporting they saw a man jump into the water, police said.

“First responders discovered the man clinging weakly to a pier pylon,” police said in a news release. Lifeguards rescued him from the water and learned he was a 75-year-old man reported missing from Las Vegas. He told them he jumped in an attempt to commit suicide.

He was not injured when he fell into the cold water, but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police said.
