A Seal Beach police officer was hospitalized Friday in a traffic collision at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Seal Beach Boulevard, authorities said.

According to the Seal Beach Police Department, the officer was responding to a call at around 12:16 p.m. when he drove through the intersection and was struck by the driver of another vehicle.

Orange County Fire Authority personnel responded to the scene to evaluate the officer and transported him to a local hospital with injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening, police said, adding that he has since been discharged from the hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle also suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene police said.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known, according to police, who said the officer had their lights and sirens on when it happened. They did not say who had the green light.

The Cypress Police Department is handling this investigation with the help of Los Alamitos Police, according to SBPD.
