Seven people were transported to local hospitals this afternoon after being involved in a five-car collision, possibly due to a hit-and-run, officials said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene in the area of Stearns and Redondo at about 3:18PM, said LBFD spokesman Jake Heflin.
Arriving units found five vehicles involved, including a Dodge truck on its side, a silver Hyundai Sonata with significant rear-end damage and a tan Nissan with significant front-end damage. Two other vehicles received minor damages.
A total of seven people, whose ages range from 15 to late-60s, were transported to area hospitals by LBFD personnel for mild and serious conditions.
“Most of it was based on mechanisms of injury,” Heflin said. “It may not have been that they had any significant visible injuries.”
A preliminary investigation found that the accident was caused by a possible hit-and-run, with at least one vehicle driving at a high rate of speed.
The Long Beach Police Department arrested one person in connection with the accident. Officers located and arrested the hit-and-run driver nearby in Signal Hill, said LBPD spokeswoman Claudia Lopez.
