A man was in critical but stable condition after being shot in North Long Beach Sunday, authorities said.

Officers found the victim after responding to the 3700 block of Long Beach Boulevard in Bixby Knolls at 6:30 p.m. after a report of a shooting, according to LBPD spokesperson Brandon Fahey. The man had been shot in the upper body, according to police.

The victim told police he had been robbed at gunpoint near the 2600 block of East 56th Way by another man, Fahey said. The confrontation escalated to a shooting, according to police.

Officers located bullet casings at the North Long Beach scene, Fahey said.

The Long Beach Fire Department transported the victim to a local hospital, according to Fahey.
