Four people sustained minor injuries on Monday afternoon when two cars collided, authorities said.

The crash occurred in the intersection of 45th Street and Atlantic Avenue at about 12:58PM Monday afternoon, said Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) spokesman Jake Heflin.

A preliminary investigation found that one car was traveling southbound on Atlantic Avenue when the other vehicle made a u-turn at 45th Street and Atlantic Avenue.

Long Beach Police Department officers are investigating to see who had the right-of-way at the time of the accident, but the intersection was controlled by a light signal with a left-turn arrow, Heflin said. However, it is unknown if the arrow was green at the time of the accident.

Four people, ranging in age from 20 to 88, sustained minor injuries in the crash and were transported to area hospitals, Heflin said.

Minutes earlier, two people sustained minor injuries in a separate crash involving two vehicles at about 12:50PM in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Fourth Street, said Marlene Arrona, spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department.

No further details were available about either accident, and both investigations are ongoing. We will update this story as we learn more.
