Firefighters extinguished a brush fire this afternoon that scorched a section of DeForest Park in North Long Beach.

The blaze was first reported at about 3:10 p.m. on De Forest Avenue near East 59th Street, said Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Brian Fisk.

Units arrived to find a brush fire burning at DeForest Park not far from a mobile home park, Fisk said. The flames burned a grassy area of about 400 yards by 300 yards near a nature trail.

Crews knocked down the flames within about an hour and prevented damage to the mobile home park, he said.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
