The Long Beach Post and Long Beach Business Journal in recent weeks have hired four new reporters as we continue to grow and broaden our coverage of the city and its communities.

First aboard was Fernando Haro, who joined us in mid-December, a recent graduate of Cal State Long Beach after attending El Camino College. Haro has been busy at the Post covering public safety news, including crime, fire and courts as well as rolling on breaking news stories. In college, his areas of expertise included immigration, social justice, environmental justice and crime for the newspapers at CSULB and El Camino.

At the beginning of the year we hired Jake Gotta, who already had a solid reputation as a social commentator. He’s a well-known personality on the video app TikTok and Instagram, and has already greatly increased our social media presence, most recently through his Daily Rundown, a one-minute digest of the day’s top stories.

Christian May-Suzuki joined us two weeks ago to shore up our coverage in the Long Beach Business Journal. He’ll be covering real estate and other general business stories for the Journal. May-Suzuki was most recently an editor at the Culver City News and Gardena Valley News.

Laura Anaya-Morga, a first-generation Mexican-American, comes to the Post from the Los Angeles Times, where she assisted in a year-long project focused on the Salvadoran Diaspora in the wake of the country’s civil war. At the Post she’ll be a general assignment reporter.
