The City of Long Beach announced this week that residents can remain engaged in the civic process even more through legislative e-alerts honed to their own specificities and interests.

Let’s say you are interested in knowing when the City is addressing anything to do with parking in Long Beach. Before,  one would have to go to the Legister link on the City’s website and each week search for the keyword “parking” to see if any of the City’s various departments, boards, commissions or committees had parking-related legislation on the agenda.

With these new alerts, one can set up an account through the City’s website (longbeach.gov) and save search terms that will notify you via email if there is legislation coming up, regardless of whether your interest is in a certain district, a specific City department, or even something as specific as an emergency ordinance.

For those who already have accounts set up at the City’s website (longbeach.gov), they can visit the City Clerk’s website, access one’s account, and search for specific keywords under the Legislation tab. After you set up the alert, when that keyword is mentioned in any of the City Council, Planning Commission or other department’s agenda items, an email will be sent to you notifying you of said item. All City legislation is available for immediate viewing and downloading 24/7 through the City’s website.

The alerts are just another way that the City of Long Beach–which was last year recognized as a national leader in using technology–is making it even easier for residents to be notified of and involved in the legislative process that matter most to them. It even permits you to be notified about past legislation through archives that go back to 2005.
