Long Beach police say they’ve arrested a suspect in connection to the death of 30-year-old Kevin Magana, who was found shot to death last month near Scherer Park.

Seth Gomes, 33, was taken into custody Monday near Long Beach’s Los Cerritos neighborhood on suspicion of murder, authorities said. He is currently being held in jail in lieu of $2 million bail, police said.

Police say Magana was found unresponsive off a roadway near the intersection of 49th Street and Del Amo Boulevard at around 5:13 a.m. on Dec. 20.

Despite efforts by the Long Beach Fire Department, he died at the scene, police said. The cause and manner of Magana’s death were not immediately released by police at the time of his death, although the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has since revealed he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Homicide detectives will present the case against Gomes to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.

At this time, detectives are still working to determine the motive for the shooting.
