Signal Hill police urged people to be careful even walking home after the Super Bowl if they plan on watching the game at a bar or drinking.
Police will hold the checkpoint from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. somewhere in Signal Hill on Friday night.
Long Beach police arrested one person on suspicion of firearm possession, another on suspicion of drug possession and five more for allegedly driving under the influence.
Police officers will be stationed at a checkpoint somewhere in the department’s North Division—including Bixby Knolls, Cal Heights and North Long Beach— between 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Police also cited 14 people for unsafe driving, 12 drivers for being unlicensed and two for driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Officers will be conducting a checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. somewhere in the West Division area, which includes the Poly, Wrigley and Westside neighborhoods.
The checkpoint was conducted between 6 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday on Santa Fe Avenue at Auto Drive South, authorities said.
Police urged people to make sure they have a designated driver and emphasized that a DUI can mean drugs, not just alcohol.
Police did issue seven citations, including three for unlicensed drivers, at the checkpoint on Ocean Boulevard and Cherry Avenue.
The DUI checkpoint will last from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. somewhere in the eastern portion of Long Beach on Saturday night, police said.
