A tar spill has shut down a North Long Beach street for the next several hours this evening as city crews work to clean the area.

The incident was reported just after 3:00PM and happened on southbound Paramount Boulevard, closing off the road from 68th Street to the 91 Freeway, according to a Nixle Alert.  The road is expected to be close for the next 5 hours.

Twenty-four five-gallon containers of roofing tar were left on the Paramount Boulevard on-ramp to the westbound 91 Freeway, said Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) spokesman Jake Heflin. A fire engine and health vehicle were dispatched to clean the area.

Authorities have not provided additional information at this time.
