Hours after a pedestrian was struck by a Blue Line train as it pulled out of the 5th St. station in Downtown Long Beach, the same station was host to a shooting that left one man in the hospital.
A 19 year-old man was shot on a southbound Metro Blue Line train at 6:15PM as it sat at the 5th St. station. Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau said that three to four suspects exited the train at the north end of the platform and were last seen running east on 6th St. There is no known motive for the shooting.
The victim was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital where he was in stable condition as of 10PM Monday night.
Rick Jager of Metro said he could not remember the last time someone was shot on a Metro train. “It doesn’t happen very often,” he said.
L.A. County Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crime to please come forward with information. Witnesses can call (800) 222-TIPS to anonymously provide information to investigators, the sheriff’s department said.
We will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
