Dee Andrews has announced his office’s kickoff of the Sixth District’s 29th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace & Unity Parade and Celebration, slated for Saturday, January 14, 2017.

The office also announced its accepting of applications for sponsorships, parade participants, vendors, performers and volunteers.

“Love and Forgiveness” stand as the themes for the year, highlighting Dr. Martin Luther King’s own words.

“We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive,” said King. “He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.”

While the grand marshals have yet to be announced (Supervisor Don Knabe and the family of the late Jenni Rivera marched last year), the parade commencement time is set for 10:30AM, with a celebration to follow, from noon to 6:00PM at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.

Dreamland, a section geared toward children, featuring free carnival rides, arts & crafts booth, and their own entertainment stage, will cap off the day of festivities aimed at honoring the life and legacy of King.
