A woman and two men were the latest individuals to die from COVID-19, Long Beach officials reported Tuesday.

Three coronavirus-related deaths reported in one day matches the highest daily toll Long Beach has seen so far during the pandemic. The number of people who have died from the virus now stands at 48, with 37 of those deaths linked to long-term care facilities.

The victims were in their 60s, 70s and 80s. Two of the latest victims were linked to long-term care facilities and had underlying health conditions. One death is currently under investigation, so it’s unclear if the person had an underlying health condition, officials said.

The number of new confirmed coronavirus cases also increased to 31, bringing the total to 984 citywide. About 639 people have recovered with the number of people hospitalized dropping to 49. That number has stayed relatively steady between about 40 and 50 for the last few weeks.

Countywide, public health officials reported 45 new deaths and 961 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,613 and total confirmed cases to 33,180.

Officials noted that countywide, 92% of people who died had underlying health conditions.
