7:00am | Each year, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction announces high-performing California schools that are designated model middle schools in the Schools to Watch**Taking Center Stage (STW**TCS) program. Retaining its status from last year, Long Beach’s own Tincher Preparatory demonstrates what Superintendent Tom Torlakson calls “academic excellence, developmental responsiveness to the needs and interests of young adolescents, social equity, and organizational support.”

The educational gem, centered between the triad of the Los Altos, College Estates, and El Dorado South neighborhoods, add this to their many list of achievements. The school also was recently selected as one of the Verizon Foundation’s Demonstration Schools. This grant award will be used to support the full implementation of Verizon Thinkfinity resources to support the academic program at Tincher.

Furthermore, the school has been awarded the Title 1 Academic Achievement Award by the California Department of Education, as well as being recognized as a California Distinguished School and a National Forum Schools to Watch.
