Two families were displaced in a two-alarm fire at Paradise Garden Apartments on Sunday morning, authorities said.

Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel were dispatched to the apartment complex, located at 6479 Atlantic Avenue, shortly before 7:00AM Sunday morning, said LBFD spokesman Brian Fisk.

Arriving units found fire and smoke coming from the kitchen of a first-floor apartment, and a second alarm assignment was dispatched when firefighters discovered the fire had begun to spread to a unit directly above through a space in the wall.

While the bulk of the fire was extinguished within 45 minutes, firefighters remained on scene “given the lengthy salvage and overhaul operation,” Fisk said.

Two families were temporarily relocated to some unoccupied units in the same apartment complex as a result of the fire.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No further information is available at this time. We will update this story as we learn more.
