Struggling families will be able to pick up food for free during two food distribution events scheduled to be held in Central Long Beach later this week.

The first event is hosted by Vice Mayor Dee Andrews, who represents the area, on Friday, July 10.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. “The Brother’s Feeding Friends & Family Food Giveaway” will be distributing food at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, at 1950 Lemon Ave.

Residents won’t need a vehicle but will need to make a reservation with Andrews’ office at 562-570-6816 to receive an arrival time.

The second event will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11 at Mark Twain Neighborhood Library, 1401 E. Anaheim St.

The event, which is a drive-thru food pantry, will give groceries, “essentials, and more” to the first 200 families. Sign up is required and can be done by reaching out to the neighborhood group AOC7 on Facebook or signing up here.

It is sponsored by the Port of Long Beach, Blue Shield of California, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Long Beach Center for Economic Inclusion.
