On Friday, June 29, at approximately 7:30pm, Long Beach Police responded to a shooting in the area of 67th Street and Butler Avenue that resulted in the death of a male adult.

The preliminary investigation indicated that a male suspect on foot approached two male subjects also on foot. The initial suspect exchanged words with the pair before firing at them and striking them both. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle being driven by a third party.

One victim, who is only being identified as a 30-year-old male from Long Beach, was struck in the lower body and was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The second subject, identified as 24-year-old Manny Amaya of Long Beach, was struck in the upper and lower body. He was also transported and listed in critical condition; however, he was pronounced deceased on June 30 as a result of his injuries.

Based on the investigation, it does not appear that either victim were gang members; however, the incident is still being investigated as gang-related. No other suspect information is available at this time.
