Monday, July 18, 1:15pm | Long Beach nonprofit Children Today hosted its third annual 5K/10K Run/Walk on Saturday, with hundreds of participants of all ages running and walking to raise money the organization will use in furtherance of its mission to provide services to young children in the city who are homeless.
The event was held as part of the city’s summer-long Sea Festival. In previous years the Run/Walk was held in Belmont Shore, but this year it was moved downtown to Marina Green Park in partnership with Alfredo’s Ultimate Beach Party Weekend, also a Sea Fest event.
In addition to the 5K and 10K, a half-mile children’s fun run was offered for youth who wished to participate. All three courses ran along the shoreline.
Registration was $35 for adults and $15 for youth. The fundraiser in previous years raised about $30,000, said Children Today Executive Director Dora Jacildo.
While the final amount raised this year was not immediately available Monday, organizers said they believe more was raised this year due to the event’s partnering up with the beach party and other weekend events.
